What if you have to shorten, interrupt or extend your trip? With trip interruption insurance, you are insured against unforeseen events such as illness, accidents or death during the trip (including those involving related persons). The insurance reimburses you for the costs of the unused part of your trip as well as additional return trip and accommodation costs.

The insurance covers the cardholder (primary, second, additional and partner cards), their spouse or partner living in the same household and children under the age of 25 who are entitled to support, provided they live in the same household or are resident in Switzerland.

The following prerequisites must be met for the insurance to provide cover:

  • The trip is interrupted or abandoned due to an insured event.
  • The trip is a business trip lasting no more than 120 days.
  • At least 50% of the travel costs were paid for with one or more valid Viseca company credit cards.
  • The insurer has been contacted immediately.

The following maximum insured sums apply per event and per person:

A business trip is deemed to be a temporary absence from the place of residence or work for business reasons for up to 120 calendar days, excluding commuting. Included in this are no more than 14 free days or days’ holiday, right at the beginning of, during or prior to the end of the business trip.

The following qualify as related persons:

  • spouse or partner
  • parents
  • children, foster children and adoptive children
  • siblings
  • parents-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparents and grandchildren of the insured person

Related persons are not insured persons and therefore do not benefit from insurance protection. However, if a trip must be cancelled or interrupted due to an accident or serious illness concerning a related person, this is an insured event.

Any means of transport that runs regularly on the basis of a timetable and the use of which requires the purchase of a ticket. Private and business jets for which booking confirmation exists are covered. Taxis and hire cars do not qualify as public transport.

If admission to hospital (minimum of one night’s stay) is necessary, if as part of the treatment the physician must prescribe a drug that is available in Switzerland on prescription only, if the physician certifies that the insured person is unfit for work for at least five working days or if the physician certifies in writing that the insured person is unfit to travel.

Exclusions from the insurance cover include the following:

  • Existence of the incident or illness at the time of the booking.
  • Implementation of measures and incurring of costs that were not ordered or approved beforehand.
  • Cancellation of the trip by the organiser.
  • Poor recovery

  • Damage arising from the fact that the belongings have been forgotten, left unattended or misplaced

In case of delay

  • Luggage arrived late on the return trip to the place of residence.
  • Purchases were made after the luggage was delivered.

In the event of a claim, you are obliged to limit the damage or loss as much as possible.

Theft, loss, damage or destruction

Please contact the transport company immediately to discuss how to proceed and to obtain written confirmation. You must also report any theft immediately to the local police and have a police report drawn up. Please also keep damaged items available until the claim is settled.
